We have a limited number of willow starts in different varieties available for pre-order.  These willows will begin to ship out in November and should be planted as soon as they arrive.

Why willows?

  • Great for privacy and for landscape contrast.
  • Loved by pollinators and wildlife for habitats.
  • Excellent for timeless crafts and floral arrangements.

Willow Information

  • All willow varieties we offer are 1 year old plants and will ship in November as bare roots.
  • Each plant will be trimmed before shipping to under 1' in length.  Currently they have grown 14-36" in the first year.
  • Willows are $19.99 + shipping.

Willow Care

  • Ensure the willow you pick is hardy in your USDA growing zone.
  • Once willows arrive to you, immediately unpack and water.  For best results, plant directly in the ground within 48 hours of receiving them.
  • Keeping them watered to establish is key, however most willow selections we offer will prefer moist conditions throughout their lifespan.
  • Plant your willows in a moist location that receives at least 6+ hours of full sun a day.  Willows may grow in more shaded areas, but growth will not be as fast and flowering not as dramatic.

Here are the different varieties of willows we have available:

Fantail Willow

  • USDA Zones 5a to 7b hardy.
  • 10'-15' upward growth + width.
  • Soil prefers medium to wet conditions but is adaptable once established.
  • Full sun to part shade.

The fantail willow is a visually pleasing addition to any landscape and blooms in early spring, producing grey catkins that mature to a light-yellow color.  The thick, flat fantail shape stalks hold 3-5" long green leaves that turn golden yellow in the fall.

Giant Pussy Willow

  • USDA zones 5-9
  • 12-15' upward growth + width.
  • Prefers moist soil conditions to establish.
  • Full sun or 6+ hours of sun/day.

Giant pussy willow is a striking addition to landscapes and floral arrangements.  The stems begin a stunning red color and mature to green.  It produces large, pink catkins early in the spring.

Pink Pussy Willow

  • USDA zones 4-8.
  • Grows up to 30' tall and may spread out 15-25' wide.
  • Prefers moist soil conditions.
  • Full Sun to Part Shade

Pink pussy willow makes fuzzy catkins in the early spring, great for early pollinators.  This is a fast-growing willow if planted in good conditions and cared for properly.

Flame Willow

  • USDA zones 4-7.
  • 15-20' tall + 10-15' wide growth.
  • Prefers normal to moist soil conditions.  Can tolerate draught once established.
  • Full sun to part shade.

Flame willow offers striking reddish, orange-colored stems that retain their color even through the winter.  Flame willow is fast growing and can tolerate dry soil conditions once it's been established.  Great for landscape contrast and valued as a stunning addition in floral arrangements.

Green Curly Willow

  • USDA zones 4a-8b.
  • Grows up to 30' tall and 15-30' wide.
  • Prefers moist to wet soil conditions.
  • Full sun to part shade.

Green curly willow is a fast and large growing willow that has striking yellowish green colored stems.  This type of willow can be totally coppiced each year or left to grow into more of a tree.  It does prefer wet soil conditions throughout its lifespan.

Red Curly Willow

  • USDA zones 4a-8b.
  • Grows up to 30' tall and can spread 15-25' wide.
  • Prefers moist soil conditions, especially during warmer months.
  • Full sun to part shade.

Red Curly Willow is a fast grower like the green curly willow and can reach up to 30' tall.  It doesn't tolerate hot, dry conditions and prefers moist, well-drained soil.  You'll be in love with the vibrant red stalks in winter months.
