A Face Full of Elderflowers - Elderflower for Skin Care

You've known us here at River Hills Harvest to be all about American elderberries, today we are going to talk about the flowers. Currently we supply freeze-dried elderflowers, our famous Elderflower Cordial, and botanical tea blends made with American elderflowers. Each is delicious and known to contain similar immune boosting qualities that the berries do. A few years ago, we heard tell of research being done regarding the qualities of elderflowers for skin care.

Elderflowers are known to contain powerful anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial qualities, great for our skin care routine!

It was then we worked with our favorite herbalist to develop our Elderflower Salve (Crystal of Flourish Farmstead who makes our tea blends!). The salve is made with our hand-harvested American elderflowers and is great topically for soothing bug bites, burns and rashes. In addition, it's moisturizing qualities may help speed up the process of healing scars or bruises. While the salve is a powerful product, it is too heavy to be recommended to use daily on your face. And if you are anything like me, you put the most effort into the skin on your face and neck!

Fast forward to last year's annual River Hills Harvest Elderberry Workshop & Orchard Tour where I found an elderflower skin care lotion being made by our friends at Elder Farms. I was delighted to give it a try, as I was already aware of the many pro-skin qualities elderflowers have.

My entire adulthood I have struggled with acne, scarring, redness and inflammation. Products I tried in the past left my face too oily and it would break out, or it wasn't giving me enough moisture. I've had turkey neck on a humid summer day. How does that even happen?!? 😂 Shortly before discovering the Elderflower Face Lotion, I had started researching and trying all the viral skin care products. Products that were filled with unnatural ingredients and chemicals. What makes it even worse was the hole purchasing these products left in my pocket, without even working on my skin. Personally, I started with just the lotion because I generally always had bad reactions to oily serums. What I noticed first was the immediate 'nice' feeling after applying it, a feeling I have only found in elderflower products. Next, I noticed that my face became more moisturized but less oily: no more dry patches and no more oily t-zone.

After using the lotion for a few weeks, I visibly could see an improvement in my skin. It was brighter and my pores were less visible. At this point, I recommended these products to every woman I knew! Surprisingly though, they all raved about how balancing and wonderful the serum was. Again, I swore my face was too oily for serums, but after seeing my friends looking radiant, I decided it was worth a shot.

What a difference it makes! It took me a little bit to figure out the correct way to apply the serum and to realize how little it actually took. Once I got it down, the impact was immediate. Turns out my face loves an oily serum, and my skin is more balanced than ever. The serum has helped heal scars from past acne and people that know me best continue to comment on how radiant I am looking.
