Elderberry Cordial: The Taste of the Holidays

Use our American Elderberry Cordial in three easy to make recipes for the holiday season. Each offers the flavors of cinnamon, clove and of course, elderberry!

When we think about our ideal holiday season, we dream of warm cocktails by a fire, reading a nice book or magically reminiscing about holiday gift shopping. In reality, these things may happen to some of us. However, most of the world is dodging large shopping crowds, trying to wrap presents without the 'help' of our pets, and let's face it: we are just busy.

At the time when we want to bundle up and forget about the world, we are put right out in the middle of it. Whether shopping, attending school or church functions or visiting family, we are around a lot of people this time of year. The last thing you want this month is to come down with a cold or flu. Taking elderberry daily can help your immune system combat or prevent these illnesses from happening to you and your family. But it gets better...

Our American Elderberry Cordial is the flavor of the season...

Made with our Premium American Elderberry Juice, cinnamon, clove and honey. It's like pie in a bottle! We think you'll want to drink more than a few tablespoons a day. Not only is it tasty, but there is a significant amount of honey in it, which can help soothe a sore throat. And we know that locally sourced honey can help our bodies in many ways on its own. All the honey we use is sourced from right here in the Midwest.

Not only is our American Elderberry Cordial great for your body to take daily, but it's also just downright delicious! Don't save it for yourself, show your family and friends. We have an earlier blog post about Elderberry Mulled Apple Cider, where Renee uses dehydrated elderberries. We are here to offer you a much faster and simpler solution today.

Quick Elderberry Apple Cider

This recipe is two ingredients, apple juice or cider and our American Elderberry Cordial. Our cordial offers the flavors of elderberry, cinnamon and clove as well as the sweetness of honey.

  1. You can purchase a gallon of your favorite apple juice for this recipe, but if you like extra sweet, you can also start with a gallon of pre-made apple cider.

  2. Add your apple juice (or cider) to a saucepan or crockpot. Per gallon, add 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of American Elderberry Cordial.

  3. Give it a quick stir and heat. No need to boil or simmer, just heat it enough to enjoy it. The crockpot is great because you can keep it warm throughout the evening.

  4. This drink can also be served cold over ice. Bonus points if you add fresh apple slices!

We think your family will love the elderberry flavoring with apple juice! Another quick and easy way to serve our American Elderberry Cordial is with a hot tea. Just like the cider recipe, this can be made and kept in a crockpot for the evening to be enjoyed throughout.

Elderberry Hot Tea

  1. Brew up your favorite herbal tea, green tea or black tea for this recipe.

  2. While the tea is warm but done brewing, add American Elderberry Cordial and continue to heat.

  3. Add a half to one tablespoon of cordial per glass of hot tea. This will give sweetness and offer flavors of cinnamon and clove.

  4. Many people enjoy adding 1 to 3 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice to this recipe as well, but not required.

Now that you have a hot elderberry tea, step it up a notch by offering the family elderberry hot toddies! There seem to be a million different hot toddy recipes out there to choose from. If you already have a favorite, mix it up and simply add a little bit of cordial to it. Or follow the recipe below.

Spiced Elderberry Hot Toddy Cocktail

  1. Take your heated elderberry tea from before and add a few tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice.

  2. Then add 2oz of your favorite bourbon or scotch.

  3. Give it a stir and enjoy. You could also add a traditional lemon peel or drop a slice of lemon in the drink.

Our American Elderberry Cordial isn't just a delicious flavoring, it's great for you too!

By taking two tablespoons a day of our American Elderberry Cordial, you will get your daily dose of elderberry. This can help improve your immune system with high antioxidants. There are also a number of other health benefits of taking elderberry.

Why is our cordial different than the rest? First, we offer an FDA approved product that is shelf stable for a number of years. After opening, keep it in the refrigerator and enjoy it for up to a month. Second, we start with our nutrient dense, American Elderberry Juice. Never dehydrated berries. This gives our cordial a full-bodied flavor not found in most elderberry syrups on the market. Third, and most important, our cordial is made from elderberries farmed right here in the USA. You can be assured that with each purchase, you are supporting American farms and small businesses.

We hope that you enjoy some of our cordial this season and it becomes a holiday tradition!

Until next time, cheers to your health!
